Code of conduct of the German Advertising Council concerning commercial communication for alcoholic drinks

The producers and importers of alcoholic beverages in Germany recognise their obligation to design their commercial communication in such a way as to promote the measured / pleasurable consumption of alcoholic drinks. They are therefore subject to a strict code of conduct, which is monitored by the German Advertising Council (www.werberat.de). This code of conduct unambiguously regulates which advertising messages may be sent to whom by the producers of alcoholic beverages and in which form. At the same time, it also provides the brewers in Germany with a clear framework for action.

Brauerei C. & A. VELTINS GmbH & Co. KG is emphatically committed to this code of conduct – and to the best of its knowledge, adheres to it in all of its commercial communication. Among other things, we refrain from:

  • Promotional messages which promote misuse and/or trivialise it,
  • Measures which are directed at minors who are not yet old enough to drink,
  • Images of minors drinking beer,
  • Images of performance athletes who drink alcoholic beer or promote doing so
  • Information that does away with safety risks, anxiety and conflict, information pointing to disinhibition, statements relating to illness, highlighting of a particular alcohol content

For Brauerei C. & A. VELTINS GmbH & Co. KG, this code of conduct is not only an obligation but a matter of course. It provides a uniform and unambiguous framework for all publicity campaigns and publicity messages, both in our brewery and among all the agencies who work for us. It is a reference and a guide for each campaign and measure in the field of advertising and communication. In spite of this active and active commitment, it is possible that one of our advertising messages may be understood by the consumer and/or misleading for the consumer: This is, of course, something which we neither want nor plan for. Should you nevertheless wish make a complaint with reference to the code of conduct, you can contact us directly or to the German Advertising Council. This way, you will help us deliver our messages even more sensitively and closer to the code of conduct.
